Welcome back to another exciting week at Cedar Valley!

As we quickly approach the end of the year, we must work together to ensure our students successfully cross the finish line. One crucial aspect of this support is the consistent communication with your student’s teachers. I recommend that you monitor Skyward at least once per week if not daily. This proactive measure will help minimize surprises and enable timely interventions where needed.

Please make note of the following:

1. Utah Shakeout

On Thursday, April 18th, at 10:15 AM, Cedar Valley will participate in the Great Utah Shakeout. Students will be instructed to drop, cover, and hold on for approximately one minute. This exercise is vital for preparing our community for earthquake safety.

This is what teachers will use as a basis for the activity. Feel free to read over the materials and discuss this at home with your children.

Drop, Cover, and Hold On or other recommended actions such as Lock (wheels), Cover, and Hold On – if you feel shaking or get an alert.

2. Chromebook Checks for 9-11th Grades

Tuesday, April 23rd, will be our annual Chromebook check. Students will need to bring their Chromebooks and chargers to their first period. If your student will not be at CVHS during that time, please have them bring their Chromebook and charger to the Chromebook Center, D254, to be checked and avoid a fine.

3. Senior Chromebooks

On May 14th all seniors will need to return their school Chromebooks. Seniors may choose to purchase their Chromebooks for $30.00 at this time.

4. Testing Update:

We had a great testing week with good participation. We will continue to pull students in to finish testing during the next few weeks. The state requires us to test 95% of our students, so we will work towards that goal through the first week of May.

5. Graduation Information

The following information was emailed out to our current Seniors, early graduates and Juniors that will be graduating early, on Friday, March 29th. This document can be found on our website under the graduation tab and will be updated with any changes. 6. Graduation Assembly and Cap & Gown Distribution

April 25th will be the assembly to go over the senior end-of-year activities and graduation information during Steele Time (9:06 am). Following the assembly, we will be distributing the cap and gowns to seniors who are on track to graduate, pass the Civics test, and have their fees and fines paid for. After the assembly, your student counselors will have the cap and gowns for those seniors who were not able to attend or had UVU or MTech classes.

7. Honor Cord List

Congratulations to our seniors who are eligible to purchase honor cords. The list is posted outside the Student Center and Financial Office. These are based on the 3rd term Cumulative GPA. The cost is $6.00 per cord and it is optional to purchase.

The finance office will be set up to sell the honor cords during the Cap & Gown distribution on Thursday, April 25th in the gym. After that time, seniors can purchase the cords from the finance office beginning April 29th during their office hours.

8. Aviator Scholars

Congratulations to the Class of 2024 Aviator Scholars! The list of Aviator Scholars is posted outside of the Student Center/Counseling office. This is the academic Top Ten percent. The Administration distributed the congratulations letters on April 11 & 12th. Those who have not yet received their letter will receive theirs shortly.

9. Seniors – ACE Night!

We will hold our Aviator Celebration of Excellence (ACE) on Wednesday, May 15th at 6 pm! This is an evening to recognize Senior Aviators’ achievements and excellence. We can’t celebrate, however, without knowing what has been accomplished. We want to know our students’ accomplishments!

10. Summer School At CVHS Registration Information Reminder

CVHS is starting to enroll students in summer school! The dates will be June 10th – 28th. Here are the steps to sign up:

1. Meet with your counselor to determine what classes you need to take.

2. Fill out the online form with your information.

3. Pay the $25 registration fee before June 12 (nonrefundable) online or at the finance office.

Dear Aviators,

This last week before break is a prime opportunity for our students to catch up on any missed work so they can enjoy their time off to the fullest. But when we come back, it’s game time for ACT and ASPIRE testing! 

The Aspire test is a fantastic way to practice for the ACT for our  9-10th grade students. Aspire Plus measures student proficiency in English, math, reading, and science.  By taking this test seriously, students will understand the areas they need to hone their skills on so they can prepare better for the ACT for their junior year. 

1. Why We Care About Testing

These tests aren’t just another hurdle to jump over; they’re a chance for our kids to shine. Doing well not only boosts our school’s reputation but also gives us valuable insights into where we can improve our teaching methods.

As parents/guardians, your encouragement and support are invaluable during this time. Please continue to motivate your child to do their best and emphasize the importance of these assessments.

2. Our Goal

Our aim is for every student to perform to the best of their abilities, with a target of achieving at least 95% participation in the testing process. This aligns with state requirements, and failure to meet this threshold can result in detrimental consequences, potentially affecting our school’s performance letter grade. Our students are exceptionally talented, and it’s essential for their achievements to be recognized and celebrated.

3. April 10th ACT Day Calculator Policy

Please review the calculator policy and remember that no electronic devices except for approved calculators are allowed in the test. Smart watches, cell phones, air pods, and other electronics devices are not allowed at all during the testing period. Even if the students aren’t in the testing room, they cannot access their phones and devices during the break. Please remind the students to leave their devices in their cars or at home for the testing.

6. Today and Tomorrow PTSA Fundraiser – Texas Roadhouse Rolls:

Pick up Easter frozen  rolls from Texas Roadhouse Rolls.  It’s a great bargain.  Each order, priced at $10, includes a dozen frozen rolls, 6 oz of their famous honey butter, and a free appetizer card. Orders can be placed at cvhs.memberhub.com/store/items/997658.  Pick up will be on March 25th & 26th from 5:30-7:00 pm INSIDE the school in the commons area.

7. Top Gun Movie Reward Event This Friday

Just a friendly reminder that our Top Gun Movie reward is scheduled for March 29th, starting at 8:30 AM and concluding at 11:00 AM. We’re excited for this upcoming event!

To be eligible for an invitation, students must meet the following criteria:

• Semester 1 – 5 or less unexcused absences, 

• Semester 1 – 5 or less tardies.  

• All year – no discipline actions

• No current F’s as of March 25th for Quarter 3.

10. CVHS Community Outreach Information: 

We are excited to announce our upcoming Community Event at Cedar Valley High School on Wednesday, April 10th! You won’t want to miss it! Greetings Aviators,

We hope this message finds you enjoying the last few days of guiding your students to finish strong in term 3!  Only ten days left and we will be on our final approach to term 4! 

Please take a moment to review the following important updates:

1. Weekly Flight Plan Lesson:

Every Monday during Steele Time, our students engage in creating a “Flight Plan” for the week. This includes setting a weekly goal and scheduling their activities. Additionally, teachers conduct a brief 5-10 minute connection activity. 

This week students took an online skills assessment to explore their unique skills and talents. They were encouraged to reflect on how their skills have helped them reach their goals. I encourage you to discuss these activities with your students and share your own experiences.

2. Student Safety

Last week, our School Community Council convened to address the issue of student safety and other SCC business. During our discussions, several members of the SCC expressed profound appreciation for the safety measures recently implemented along Aviator Ave. Specifically, the decision to prohibit student parking on both sides of Aviator Ave, just south of the school entrance, has been recognized as a significant step forward in enhancing student safety.

While acknowledging the positive impact of these measures, it was also noted that further proactive steps are necessary to mitigate potential risks. One such concern raised was the safety of students crossing Aviator Ave after school. The SCC emphasized the importance of communicating with parents to discourage parking on Aviator Ave for student pickups, as this necessitates students to traverse the street. Unfortunately, this poses a safety hazard due to inadequate visibility for students crossing, thereby increasing the risk of accidents or incidents.

In light of these concerns, we urge all members of our school community to prioritize student safety by adhering to these guidelines. By working together, we can ensure a safer environment for all our students.

3. Student Council Elections

It’s Student Council Elections Week!  All week long we will be featuring our candidates for Student Council for next year’s 10th, 11th, and 12th grade candidates.  (Next year’s 9th Grade elections will take place separately at Frontier).  Watch our Student Council Instagram for campaign posters and videos, and take a look at the posters in the hallways at school to determine who you would like to support for Student Council for the 2024-25 school year!  Voting will take place on Thursday and Friday of this week.  A link to vote will be sent to all students at the beginning of the day on Thursday.  Students may vote for up to 12 candidates on their ballot and may only submit one ballot.  You must be logged in to your school email to vote, and voting will remain open until 2:15 on Friday.  Results will be announced on Instagram by 4 pm Friday.  Good luck to all of our amazing candidates!

Hello, Aviators!

I trust everyone enjoyed a fantastic Super Bowl weekend filled with great food and fun! As we kick off Diversity Week, here are some important updates and opportunities we’d like to highlight for you. Please take note of the following:

1. Student Council Diversity Assembly Feb 16, 2024

• We are following the TEACHER lunch to determine who goes to which assembly.  This is just so we can divide the student body roughly evenly.  Here is how it works:

• After the 1st period, ALL students will go to their 2nd Period.

• Once the tardy bell rings, teachers who have 2nd Lunch will walk their students down to the first assembly.  All others stay in 2nd period and have class.

• When the bell rings at the end of that period, those in the assembly go back to 2nd Period with their teacher to have class, and those who just had 2nd Period go to the assembly.

• When the bell rings at the end of the 2nd assembly,  students and teachers either go to lunch or 3rd period as they usually would and the day progresses as usual from there. (just with a slightly adjusted time schedule)

This week we discussed SMART Goals and encouraged students to set a SMART goal. I encourage you to discuss these activities with your students and share your own experiences.

3. PTSA Zuppas Night

Join us for our next Zupas Fundraiser night on February 13th from 4-9pm at the Saratoga Springs Zupas location. Your support helps our amazing PTSA continue to support our teachers, staff, students, and community.

4. Spread the Word

It is time for our Spread the Word to End the Word campaign again. We will be selling black long sleeve t-shirts with our slogan “It’s Cool to Include”.

We are selling the shirts for $16-$18 depending on the size of the shirt. We also have the opportunity for people to sponsor a life skills student by purchasing a shirt for them, if you would like to sponsor your own student, please feel free to do so by buying a shirt in their size. Our store will be live until Friday February 16th, 2023 at midnight. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think would be interested in purchasing outside of CVHS.

9. Graduation Information

The Utah Board of Education has voted to uphold the pre-pandemic standards that students must complete ALL graduation requirements to “walk” at graduation.  Graduation will be held this year on May 23rd.  All required credits must be completed by May 17th.  Check missing credits by going to Skyward and on the far left click on graduation requirements.  Once there you will see a column titled Remaining.  Whatever is listed in red is what is still outstanding.

10. Vaccine Clinic

The Utah County Health Department is doing a vaccine clinic next Thursday, February 8th, at Vista Heights MS in Saratoga Springs from 3-6pm. We will have all school aged vaccines, flu vaccines and the Shingrix vaccine (for 50+).  Link Here
