Turbulence to Triumph School Theme

Dear Parents,

Our school theme is so pertinent right now, Turbulence through Triumph.  We will triumph through COVID,  and I believe there are many silver linings: Our students are working hard and are happy.  Our teachers have been fine-tuning their skills with online learning support and are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help our students be successful.

Homecoming is this week Sept 21st – 26th.  There will be a variety of activities throughout the week and we couldn’t be more excited!  Our alumni are welcome to all events and activities.  This will be a great opportunity to sign yearbooks etc.  Please read through this email for some very important information.

Please make note of the following:

1. COVID Updates

As you know, Utah County is the “hot spot” for COVID cases right now in the state of Utah.  Please remember the importance of following the guidelines both in and out of school.

Our current numbers in ASD of “active” cases are:

  1. Secondary – 85

  2. Elementary – 12

  3. Employees – 40

*Active means a person is in the 10 day isolation period because of a positive case. Once they are no longer active, they are allowed to come back to school.

2.  Utah College Application Week

The week of October 5-9 Cedar Valley High School will join the Utah System of Higher Education in sponsoring Utah College Application Week (UCAW).  The purpose of this event is to acquaint students with the college application process and to communicate the importance of applying to college.  During this week, all seniors expected to graduate in 2021 will be encouraged to apply for admission to at least one college or university during their English class. Fee waivers will be available for some institutions during UCAW.

Information about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – a gateway to scholarships, grants, and low-interest rate loans to help pay for college – will also be made available during this event. The FAFSA completion Night will be October 7th from 5-7 pm at CVHS. We anticipate that students and their families will need to work together in gathering the information necessary to complete the FAFSA and college applications.

Families are invited to participate in UCAW events, including:

  • Volunteering at the College and FAFSA night event (contact Marcie Murri in the Student Center);

  • Assisting your student during the application process;

  • Asking your students questions about their future plans and telling them about your experiences;

  • Attending the free College and FAFSA night October 7th, 5-7 pm.

3. Parent-Teacher Conference

Cedar Valley HS is having a  Parent-Teacher Conference on Wednesday, September 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We moved up the time to 3:00 from 3:30.  Teachers will be available in their rooms to visit with you either online or in person. Feel free to reach out to your students’ teachers via email for a virtual conference if this better suits your needs.

4. ACT Prep Class Reminder

CVHS will start the in-person ACT preparation on Tuesday, September 22nd from 1:15-2:15.  The class will cost $45.00, however; if your student brings a buddy, the cost will only be $25.00.  Like last year, students may pay at the finance office or on My School Fees under the drop-down menu ACT.

5. ACT Online Prep Class

CVHS ACT prep class is an online class through Canvas.  The cost for this class is  $20.  Our face to face will be recorded and uploaded as the year progresses and will be a better way to prepare, however; this online version will be ready to launch in a couple of days. ACT Prep Online Class Overview Video Link.    Students may pay at the finance office or on My School Fees under the drop-down menu ACT.

6. Clubs

We are excited to provide this list of clubs for students to consider joining. With each club, you will find a link to the constitution and club application and contact information for the advisor. Also, make sure you send a signed parent permission form to the front office for each club your student wants to be a part of.

7. Parent-Teacher Conference Time Change

Please be aware that the Parent-Teacher Conference is on Wednesday, September 30th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please plan on attending.  As a reminder, there should not be any type of after school activities or practices going on that requires a teacher to attend. Also, parents may reach out to you if they prefer a virtual conference. Please be prepared to facilitate this.

8. Mountain Biking Club Team (Not School-sponsored)

40 Junior High and High School students from Eagle Mountain have formed an independent team.  Please visit the following sites for more information!  They are doing very well!
