December 12th, 2023

December 12, 2023,

Dear Aviators,

What a wonderful time of the year!  The performances, service projects, and good cheer at CV are wonderful!  We have a beautiful community that produces pretty incredible children.  There are only 9 days left until the end of the term!

Please make note of the following:

1.  Minimal Day School Schedule

The last day of school is on Thursday, December 21 which will be a Minimal Day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:15.  Lunch will be served at 10:40.

3. Class Changes for Semester 2

Please be aware that no class changes for Semester 2 will be allowed on January 8th and 9th.  Thereafter, class changes will require the $5 fee and a completed and signed class change form.  Thank you for helping us make the start of the year a smooth one.

4. ACE Mentor Program

The ACE Mentor Program is a free, after-school national mentorship program that focuses on architecture, construction, and engineering (ACE). This will be starting in January.  The goal is to create connections between students and professionals and enable the students to understand what the ACE industry is all About. For more information go here or contact Gwen Whiting, CTE coordinator, at [email protected]

5. Newcomer Peer Success Program

Our Newcomer Peer Success Program is open to those students who would like to assist our multi-language learners to be successful.  The student will receive elective credit and must commit to one class period a semester.  This assistance will require attending a class with the student and will be anything from being a friend to assisting with assignments.  Interested students must fill out an application to participate.

The ideal peer tutor should show responsible behavior, competence in core subjects, and a friendly demeanor. Other language experience is a plus, but not required.  This is a great learning and leadership opportunity for our students.  Upon application review, Mrs. Hoopes and Mrs Adams will follow up with the applicant.

Our multi-language learners, who need additional support, qualify for this program. Students will be selected by teachers.  Once chosen, they will be paired with peer tutors for as many classes as possible. The focus will be on the core subjects.  The partnership will last at least one semester.
